Healthy plant with Fruits

Gardening is a hobby and all of us if we have a place in our house should grow a vegetable garden so that we get to eat fresh vegetables every day. Moreover seeing us, the children also emulate from us and they feel very happy when they see a particular vegetable grow.

I love gardening and so my kids also love to do it. In my garden I have left a small patch for them where they grow and take the entire care of the plants by themselves. My duty is only to bring quality seeds and gardening tools and provide it to them.

Few months back they asked me to provide them with cauliflower, tomato and eggplant seeds and they planted them. When the plants started growing they took utmost care by providing water, manures and spraying pesticides if pests were seen.

They made it a point to take out time everyday to look after the plants. After a few days when they saw the small vegetables growing there joy knew no bounds. They were so excited that they invited all our friends and relatives and showed it to them.

Initially they were very reluctant to pluck the vegetables as they had nurtured it themselves. But when I plucked and made the vegetables they were very happy to eat it as it was very tasty since it was fresh.

The kids enjoyed the whole process of planting the seeds, watering the plants and seeing the plants grow very much.

YOUNG GARDENERS AT WORK

Children in the garden

Children in the garden

Children are very enthusiastic and observe everything very carefully. Ours decided to grow vegetables on a small patch of land and started off by digging.

I gave them seeds of tomatoes, cucumber and peas. They eagerly sowed those seeds and used to water it regularly. Once the plants were 5-6 cm long they replanted it in rows. They used to water it everyday.

There patience wore off eventually but finally when the flowers came they were excited and overjoyed then slowly the vegetables were fully grown.

Now whenever they wanted to they would rush to the vegetable garden to pick more.

Yes, they enjoyed it a lot and are planning to do it again with little help next year. It has taught them patience and certainly increased the amount of vegetables they eat.

Children gardening can be fun

Gardening Can Be Fun For Little Ones too!!

My daughter loves to garden with me. I bought her a trowel, a shovel and a tiny little pair or gardening gloves.

She’s two years old and doesn’t have the longest attention span but she still likes to “help” me when Daddy isn’t home to watch her for me.

I find that gardening is more fun for the smaller ones when vegetables are involved. They like to plant gorgeous flowers too don’t get me wrong but with Vegetables it’s like an ongoing project. They watch as their seeds grow into plants and as their plants grow little vegetables on them.

Then when that’s done they can pick them and then help prepare them in the kitchen their dinner. Kennedy has learned to love fruits and vegetables more now that she helps grow them.

Many writings on kids’ gardening start with what to grow and how to design and build a kids’ garden, prepare soil, and plant, but in my opinion it's not just about creating a garden for your kids.

It’s about taking advantage of “gardening moments” with your kids every week in your own backyard, precious moments that help create a bond between you that can last a lifetime

Teaching my grandson how to garden

by mani

My grandson is four and a half years old and lives in Australia. I went to Australia and lived with them for about 6 months a short while ago.

I had planted tomato seed, ladies finger seeds and green chilli seeds and some flowers. Whenever I went our to water the garden he was always there wanting to get involved and help out, in fact he would cry if he wasn't allowed to come.

The tomato and green chilli grew very quickly and some time later the ladies finger. We made the most delicious gravy /sauce with them.

It was a wonderful and special time with my grandson, I will treasure the memories forever. It was precious to see him light up when the plants grew, he even helped with the cooking.
