Here are FREE instructions on how to build a bee safe. Rural citizens have been using beehives as the hidden safe throughout the ages. They can be used to store many different items, such as, the family valuables, business papers and to keep jewelry safe.

During WW11 some rural people in Europe had up to three different armies travel through their properties. These farmers managed to get through the war years with their valuables intact – kept away from preying eyes and thieves by the protection of the beehives because they learned how to build a bee safe.

Many people and businesses have a depository safe or drop safe but this bee safe has added advantages in that it is not obvious to thieves and they would probably be unaware of its existence.

One of the things you can do is copy all of your extremely important papers and place them in the bee safe. If your property does experience a fire these papers are fire proof safe away from the main building. This hidden safe will be to your advantage if you ever need to retrieve your valuables. A second location to keep your papers in a fireproof safe condition is quite important.

A brave amateur would dig into a hive to find a bee safe!!!!

You can always wall off just one side of the hive to use as a safe but that means anyone looking inside the hive will be able easily see the unused portion of the hive and get suspicious. I do prefer the single frame-sized bee safe as the top looks just the same as the other frame tops and doesn’t raise any suspicions. I always place the bee safe to one particular side of the hive and have the other 8 frames made from normal wood.

Now you are learning how to build a bee safe be mindful of the fact that the inside of a beehive is quite moist, bees exhale 10 gallons of water vapour for every pound of honey they produce. To protect your valuables from this moisture ensure you wrap them well in sealed water proof bags.

The measurements are 17 7/8” long, 8 3/9” high and 1 ¾”wide. Make it wider than the normal frame and it will fit perfectly into a 10 frame with the remaining 9 frames fitting properly.
I recommend using pine for the bottom and top and 1/8” Masonite for the sides. Cover the top opening with a 1 ¾” slat when you are using it as a safe. That will be small enough to keep the bees out and impossible for anyone to see inside it.

Your bee safe can hold heavy items.

When you learn how to build a bee safe jewellery, silver and gold coins can all be accommodated inside easily and with room to spare. These items can be quite heavy but they will not harm the structure of the bee safe as it is sturdy and strong. You will have more than enough room inside to store your valuables. The interior space is 16 ½” long, 1 ¼” wide and 7 ½” deep.

If you using plastic frames for your beehive you can easily modify an inside feeder. So it will look like all of the other feeders in the hive just have a black plastic top. These plastic feeders are very inexpensive (approx US$4.00). A very cheap and effective to keep your valuables safe and available for hard times.

Plastic frames can easily be modified inside the hive feeder (as shown). Use a black plastic top so the 'bee safe' will look like all the other frames in the hive. These feeders are quite inexpensive (approx US$4.00).

Using this FREE plan on how to build bee safe just might save your valuables in hard times.
